Welcome to the Part P Competent Person website for the Electrical Contractor
The Contractor area of the website is designed for firms that carry out fixed electrical installation work in dwellings in England and Wales and want to be able to self-certify that their work complies with the Building Regulations.
It is a statutory requirement in England and Wales that "reasonable provision shall be made in the design and installation of electrical installations in order to protect persons operating, maintaining or altering installations from fire and injury".
This requirement applies to electrical installations in, or attached to, dwellings, and certain parts of other buildings, and in or on land associated with dwellings such as gardens.
Firms registered with an authorised Competent Person Scheme for Part P are able to self-certify that their electrical installation work complies with Building Regulations and, thus, will not have to notify, or be subject to inspection by, Building Control bodies.
This particular Part P Competent Person Scheme was approved by the Secretary of State on 29th June 2004 and is provided by EC Certification Ltd, working in partnership with the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA).
This site provides you with the information you need to know about Part P, including:
